The Ramallah Municipality has been a cornerstone of the community since its establishment in 1908, with Elias Odeh al-Dabini serving as its first mayor. Over the years, 25 mayors have guided the municipality, and today, Issa Kassis proudly leads the way, supported by a council of fourteen passionate members.
The municipality has played a vital role in nurturing the city of Ramallah through its evolving leadership. Its efforts focus on organizing the city with a thoughtful master plan, granting permits for construction, and ensuring that every building meets the community's standards. Committed to maintaining Ramallah’s cleanliness and aesthetic appeal, the municipality creates and manages parks and public spaces where residents can gather and enjoy their surroundings.
In addition to beautification, the municipality prioritizes public health and safety, working closely with relevant authorities to monitor food and consumer goods. It also regulates trades and professions, ensuring that the local economy thrives in a fair and transparent manner.
The Ramallah Municipality is dedicated to ensuring the safety of its residents, organizing transportation, and managing municipal fees and fines, all while protecting the city’s archaeological sites in collaboration with specialized agencies. Moreover, it actively promotes cultural, sports, and social activities. With a heartfelt commitment to safeguarding both private properties and public assets, the municipality works tirelessly to preserve what makes Ramallah so special. Together, they continue to build a welcoming and inclusive city that everyone can be proud to call home.
